Come Boating! will kick off its 15th season on Saturday, May 30, with activities that highlight its community boating activities. Volunteers will be at the organization’s boat shed near the Belfast Public Landing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving free hot dogs and lemonade and providing information about its free community rows, youth rowing program, and opportunities to become a coxswain or skipper. Trained coxswains will be on hand to take visitors out for a row on the harbor in a six-oar, 32-foot Cornish pilot gig.
Come Boating! will also hold its annual “All Things Nautical” Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with great deals on nautical items. All proceeds of the sale will benefit Come Boating!, which offers free community rowing throughout the summer and early fall.
The organization is seeking donations of nautical items for the sale. Functional goods such as nautical equipment, boating accessories, foul weather clothing and boots, life jackets, mooring gear, line, paddles and oars, charts, and small boats will be accepted. Come Boating! will also accept nautical books and marine art, crafts, and collectibles. All items must be clean and in useable condition.
Individuals and businesses that would like to donate items, or anyone with general questions about the yard sale should contact Carol at 338-1225 to arrange to drop off or pick up. The deadline for donating items is Friday, May 29.
The rain date for the yard sale and Launch Day activities is Sunday, May 31.
This is a fun way to kick off the 2015 season with regularly scheduled community rows, seven days a week, beginning the following week. Participants must sign up in advance at the Come Boating! boat shed. No previous experience is required. For more information click here
